Sue’s work is all about clean lines and simple forms, resulting in pieces that are beautifully minimalistic with an understated aesthetic. Chances are, you’ll have already used or own a piece of tableware that Sue has designed. Yep. Could even be in your home right now, staring you right in the face, or hiding in the kitchen cupboard. She has designed and developed pieces for IKEA, Marks and Spencer, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Next and many, many more. In her own words; “If you haven’t drunk a cup of tea from a mug I’ve designed, you don’t drink enough tea!”.

After graduating, Sue started off as a junior designer at Wedgwood which she credits for helping teach her about the fundamentals of the ceramic form, everything from how a plate should sit on a table to how a spout should pour. Even now, with over 20 years of knowledge and experience to draw from, she still uses many of the skills learnt whilst at Wedgwood to design and form the pieces she creates today at her Leicestershire studio.

In addition to working with an impressive portfolio of high-street retailers, Sue has started to work in collaboration with chefs, restaurants and hotels. Most recently, an entire collection of bone china tableware pieces were designed by Sue for chefs Ben Harrington and Patrick Powell for The Stratford Brasserie and Allegra, along with a collection of coloured pieces both designed and handmade by Sue in her studio. We already have a few more collaborations coming up…but we wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise quite yet would we?

In her free time, Sue loves nothing more than an outdoor dip (we’re talking wild swimming, in water of around 8°) and an hour of yoga or qigong. We feel ya Sue!

"Matt and I first connected while working on The Farmyard at The Newt in Somerset. It quickly became clear that the Kinn team bring genuine passion and care to everything they do. Joining the collective felt like a natural next step, and it’s been a pleasure to become part of the Kinn family."
